Bengali Department started its journey as General subject under affiliation of Calcutta University in the year 1985.

কালিনগর মহাবিদ্যালয়ের সূচনা থেকেই সুন্দরবন অঞ্চলের কিছু ছাত্র-ছাত্রীর মাতৃভাষা শিক্ষার আগ্রহকে পাথেয় করেই শুরু হয়েছিল বাংলা বিভাগের। সাধারণ বিষয় হিসেবেই কলিকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্বীকৃতিতে বাংলা পড়ার সূচনা ১৯৮৫ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে হলেও সাম্মাণিক বিষয় হিসেবে মহাবিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যবিষয় তালিকায় বাংলার অন্তর্ভুক্তি ঘটেছিল ২০০৫ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে। পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের উচ্চশিক্ষা দপ্তরের নির্দেশকে মান্যতা দিয়েই পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাষ্ট্রীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধীনে বিভাগের শুরু ২০১০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে। সূচনা থেকেই ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের প্রত্যাশাকে মাথায় রেখে বিভাগ তাঁদের পঠনপাঠন ও পাঠ সহায়ক তথ্যপ্রদানে আন্তরিকভাবেই সচেষ্ট হয়েছে। সাফল্যের পথে এগিয়ে চলা কঠিন হলেও, বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা বিগত কয়েক বছরে সাফল্যের সঙ্গেই উত্তীর্ণ হয়েছে। সেই আশায় আমরা এগিয়ে চলেছি ভবিষ্যতের পথে, সদ্য যৌবনে উত্তীর্ণকে মাতৃভাষার মাধ্যমে অনলস শিক্ষা দিতে, বঙ্গমাতার কণ্ঠ নিঃসৃত বাণীর মাধ্যমে

2 . Animesh Mondal , Part-time teacher, awarded M.Phil degree in Comparative Literature from Assam University, in the year October, 2019.
3 . 5 honours students in the department admitted in 2018-19 session obtained 60% marks in Semester 2 examination held on June 2019, 2018.
4 . Supriya Mondal has managed to score 84% marks in semester 2 examination held at June, 2019 and stood first in the college. She was also obtained highest marks in Semester 1 examination in the college.
