Strategic/Perspective PlanFounded on May 1, 1985 in the physiographical region of Sandeshkhali- an administrative division of North 24 Parganas a marshy area prone to natural calamities comprising a part of the World Heritage Site Sundarban - a mangrove habitat at the confluence of trio rivers and the abode of the famous Royal Bengal Tiger- Kalinagar Mahavidyalaya was and is still the sole centre of higher education for the region Main aim was to open up the doors of higher education to the islander mostly belonging to the marginal communities mostly illiterate, livelihood being predominantly Riziculture and Pisciculture. Starting with 47 students and a few faculty and departments the college today offers Honour courses in seven (7) subjects, pass courses in 4 subjects in the Art stream and Science stream with Geography Honours with Economics and Computer Science as pass subject combination. The college also currently provides post graduate courses in three subjects. Our vision is to emerge as a pioneer institution amidst the unique topography of the Sundarbans by emphasizing on teaching - learning, training, research (as in according with the New Education policy 2020 implementation). Extra-curricular activities along with social involvement in the responsibility of community development and upliftment being first generation learners through innovations diversity and flexibility, Furthermore, we endeavor to strive towards empowerment of woman and other sections of the marginal communities in habiting the seven islands of Sandeshkhali in the Sundarbans through value -based education. Institutional Perspective PlansFor the next five years the mission of the college is to further upgrade the infrastructure of the college throughout utilization of open spaces and many scattered constructions throughout the 14.54 acres of land. Also, to invigorate the existing disciplines, value- added courses, skill- oriented courses. Simultaneously to introduce additional more innovative, inter -disciplinary programs /courses Furthermore, in par with the guidelines of NEP 2020 more emphasis shall be given to organized workshops especially on Research Methodology publications by faculty members in college published books (ISBN) and peer-reviewed journals (ISSN) Students shall be encouraged to undertake spontaneous publications in their own way guided by their erudite faculties. Since its inception a 1985, Kalinagar Mahavidyalaya has gone to a certain extent in spite of its natural and financial constraints in parity with its physiographical location.
